Monday Vintage Obsession: The Oxford Shoe

Posted on March 11, 2013 by Johnnalynn Lynch in Fashion Tips, Home, Look of the Day, Monday Vintage Obsession, Shopping, Trends 1 Comment

Hey Afaconados!

It’s that time again! And today’s highlight is on The Oxford Shoe. Oxfords, also called “Brogues”, have been around for quite a long time. These shoes date all the way back to the 1800′s, gaining their popularity from Oxford University in England. I fell in LOVE with oxfords when I visited London. They’re comfortable to walk around in for long periods of time (which is a necessity in London), and they look great with just about anything!

Here are my picks for this week (Please Note: All photos are courtesy of the Etsy website):

Hey Afaconados!

Apologies for not taking pictures every day last week. To be honest, some of my outfits were repeaters so I figured you wouldn’t want to see the same outfits twice. Sometimes I change up items I may have worn before…as long as the outfit isn’t the same, I usually take pictures of them.

Here’s a look at what I wore last week:

Dress: The Limited (old) // Scarf: Gift from a friend in London

Monday Vintage Obsession: The Mac…In Honor of My Trip to London!

Posted on February 4, 2013 by Johnnalynn Lynch in Fashion Tips, Home, Lifestyle, Look of the Day, Monday Vintage Obsession, Shopping, Travel, Trends No Comments

Hey Afaconados!

I’m in London this week for a business trip and it feels so good to be back! I forgot just how much I missed this city! Today’s vintage obsession is on The Mac…or Trench Coat as we Americans call it.

Originally worn by British and French soldiers in the First World War, the Mac was initially used as an alternative to heavy serge greatcoats. Created by none other than Thomas Burberry himself, these coats evolved over time, becoming the fashionable coats we now know as being worn during rainy days. I can honestly say, being in London, as much as it rains here you’d be displaced not to own a Mac in this city.

Here are some of my picks (pictures courtesy of the Etsy website):

1970’s Tan Trench Coat with Attached Belt - $16

Beige Classic Trench Coat - $47

Look of the Day: A Little Bit of London

Posted on December 16, 2012 by Johnnalynn Lynch in Fashion Tips, Home, Lifestyle, Look of the Day, Shopping, Trends No Comments
Hey Afaconados!

I took a walk down memory lane today, looking at a scrapbook my friend and former co-worker Julie made for me as a gift to remember our time as roommates in London a few years ago. We had some great laughs and adventures while we were there and just looking at the scrapbook brought back so many wonderful memories. So for today's Look of the Day, I decided to add a little bit of London to my look.

Here are the details:

Sweater: Day of the Dead Sweatshirt // House of Fraser, Jeans: See by Chloe Light Grey Skinny Leg Jeans // StyleBop, Shoes: Del Toro Prince Albert London Telephone Booth Slipper Loafers // Moda Operandi, Purse: Furla Candy Bag // Zappos Couture.

Designer Spotlight: Ralph Lauren Reveals U.S Olympic Uniforms

Posted on July 10, 2012 by Johnnalynn Lynch in Designer Spotlight, Home No Comments

Hey Afaconados!

I read today that Ralph Lauren has revealed his sketches for the uniforms to be worn in the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic this summer. After seeing the sketches I could not wait to write this post!

Since I was a little girl, I remember the Olympics having a profound effect on me. The relentless determination and hard work that goes into training, the pride in one’s country, the harmony of team work and the unforgettable looks on the faces of those who take home the Gold, never cease to amaze me. Considering the blood, sweat and tears that go into preparing for this momentous occasion, it’s only fitting that these power houses (better know as athletes) arrive in pristine style. Ralph Lauren really hit the mark on this one!

Check it out:

How sophisticated is that?! I have to be honest, because of my Jamaican heritage, I always route for both the U.S and Jamaica, but I doubt anyone will look as dapper as our U.S athletes this summer! Job well done Ralph Lauren!

Until next time!

Feature Friday: Rokit

Posted on June 8, 2012 by Johnnalynn Lynch in Fashion Tips, Feature Friday, Home, Shopping 2 Comments

Hey Afaconados!

It’s Feature Friday! These articles are starting to become my favorites because I get to share some of the great shopping experiences I’ve had during my travels or while combing the internet in search of things that are “different” than what’s normal. Those who know me, know that I am a huge fan of vintage clothing. During my time in London I stumbled upon a fantastic vintage store called Rokit that I absolutely fell in love with. If you’re as in love with vintage clothing as I am, you’ll easily find that Rokit is a veritable vintage clothing playground. After starting out with only a market stall in Camden in 1986, Rokit has grown over the years and now has four London stores in Camden, Brick Lane and Covent Garden. Here’s a picture of me in London’s Chinatown with my Rokit bag in hand:

The Rokit store is huge and they have an endless selection of clothing, accessories, hats, shoes…just about anything you can think of. It’s excellent quality vintage and they even carry big designer names like Lanvin, Louis Vuitton and Gucci. As with all of the stores I shopped at during my visit there, I checked immediately to see if this store offered shipping to the United States….and they do! If you visit their website at http://www.rokit.co.uk, be sure to look at the top right corner of the screen to change the currency. As always, I’ve taken the liberty of selecting some of my favorite items from their website. Check it out:

Cream & Yellow Spot Print Dress – $54

Rokit Recycled Green Embellished Turban - $23

Yellow Circle Print Dress - $62

Lanvin Black Leather Wedges - $540

Black & Purple Playsuit w/Colorful Leaves - $70

Taupe Beige Snakeskin Bag - $54

Gucci Cream & Gray Snakeskin Shoes - $270

Trust me, you won’t be disappointed, Rokit is definitely worth checking out! Until next time!

Designer Spotlight: Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen for “The Row”

Posted on June 6, 2012 by Johnnalynn Lynch in Designer Spotlight, Fashion Tips, Home, Shopping, Trends 1 Comment

Hey Afaconados!

I was so happy to find out yesterday that Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen received the coveted and honorable award for Womenswear Designer of the Year at this year’s Council of the Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) Awards. The award was won for their luxury label The Row, which is cleverly named after London’s Savile Row, a shopping street in Mayfair (Central) London which is famous for it’s finely tailored and traditional men’s “bespoke tailoring”. The name of this line is clever, as you’ll see in pictures below, because their collection tends to have a masculine flair to it. Cool huh?!

Mary Kate (Left) wearing a long sleeved black silk dress from The Row's 2013 Resort Collection and Ashley (Right) wearing a plum colored silk V-neck dress from The Row's 2013 Resort Collection

For those of you who don’t know, the CFDA awards is like the Oscars of Fashion, and the Womenswear Designer of the Year Award, with past winners like Proenza Schouler (2011) and Marc Jacobs (2010), is said to be the biggest award of the night. These talented, ever-chic and business savvy twin tycoons have definitely sealed their place in the fashion industry. Check out some pieces I selected from their 2012 Resort Collection:

These girls have clearly shown the Fashion Industry that they should be taken seriously. Until next time!
