Hey Afaconados!
Those of you who know me well, know that my hair is natural, which (if you don’t know) means that I don’t have chemically straightened hair. And those of you who know me also know that my hair, when straight, stretches to the lower part of my waist. That means I got a LOT of hair! As a natural curly girl, I’m always looking for different ways to style my hair when it’s curly so I can save money AND so that I don’t lose my curl pattern as a result of getting blow outs. Don’t get me wrong, I do enjoy having my hair straight because it’s much more manageable and I love my Dominican stylist, but I always knew that getting rid of the chemicals meant that I would start wearing curly styles as well.
Thanks to my favorite cousin Shauna, I found a new way to make my hair REALLY curly and FULL! So curly in fact, that my hair actually looks like it only comes to my shoulders when in this style. My cousin Shauna calls these curls “Chinese Bumps”. But after a search on YouTube, I found out it’s actually called a “Bantu Knot-Out/Twist Out”. I watched a really great YouTube video tutorial by a girl named Sasanetta that can be found by clicking here. That tutorial is the reason why I was able to do my hair this way so please watch it. 
If you want to try this at home, my strongest recommendation is that you do it with clean, dry hair. I did mine wet and it was still a little damp this morning.
What you will need: Comb, Pony Tail Holder, Spray bottle filled with water and Mild Holding Creme.
Here go the steps:
1. Part a section of your hair and pin the rest of your hair back so it’s out of the way.
2. Comb out the parted section of your hair and dampen the section a little bit (but not too much).
3. Spread a generous amount of your favorite mild holding creme onto the parted section. There are lots of products out there that moisturize while also providing some hold. The best type would be one that does those two things AND doesn’t make your hair feel too oily. Everyone’s hair is a different texture so you’ll probably have to experiment to find one that works best for you. I used IsoPlus Castor Oil hair creme.
4. Begin doing a two-strand twist on the parted section of your hair and twist it all the way to the ends.
5. Take the twisted section and then begin twisting that into a knot that looks like this:
The twisted knot is at the top and the two-strand twist is the hair that’s hanging.
6. Repeat that process until you’ve done all of your hair.
It’s up to you how many Bantu Knots you want to do. When I was done with my hair, I had 9 of them. This is the result:
The Bantu Knot-Out/Twist Out can work on any hair type which is awesome! I hope you all try it, I am in LOVE with it!
