In Retrospect: Last Week’s Instagram Outfits

Posted on May 25, 2013 by Johnnalynn Lynch in Fashion Tips, Home, Lifestyle, Look of the Day, Shopping, Trends No Comments

Hey Afaconados!

For some reason I think my outfits were much more interesting last week than they’ve been in a while. I like to think that it’s because I was fresh off of my trip to Bali and felt inspired! One thing I regret not having gotten the chance to do was look for some Ikat and Batik cloth. It would have been awesome to have something made out of those beautiful fabrics they have there.

Anywho, you know the drill…here’s a look at what I wore last week:

Guys, I really want to start encouraging more comments on my blog, so if you have any questions about any of the outfits I’m wearing, please leave a comment and ask. I’d love to hear from you!

Lifestyle Tips: My Love Affair with Food in Bali

Posted on May 24, 2013 by Johnnalynn Lynch in Cooking, Fashion Tips, Home, Lifestyle, Travel No Comments

Hey Afaconados!

One of the things I find most exciting about traveling to different countries is that not only do I get to experience the culture, I ALSO get to experience the FOOD! I always find it so funny that my girls and I spend months detoxing, dieting and exercising to prepare for these trips only to completely pig out when we get to our destination.

The food in Bali is beyond delicious and they pride themselves on taste AND presentation!

TRUTH: There was not ONE dish I did not enjoy immensely during my time in Bali

So today, I thought I’d give you a visual diary of the amazing food I ate during my vacation. Please forgive me for not providing the names of the dishes I had…I literally just ordered what sounded good…and ate :-)

Travel Tips: Rock Bar Bali

Posted on May 23, 2013 by Johnnalynn Lynch in Fashion Tips, Home, Lifestyle, Travel, Trends No Comments

Hey Afaconados!

One of the best places to go in Bali to watch the sunset is Rock Bar at the Ayana Resort and Spa. After our amazing elephant expedition, the girls and I headed over to Jimbaran to take a gander at what we heard would be the most beautiful sunset ever.

The Ayana Resort and Spa is unbelievably gorgeous…and HUGE! Everywhere you look there are statues of Balinese dancers, stunning landscapes and koi ponds. Since Rock Bar is located literally off of the rocks on the side of the resort, we had to take quite a few stairs to get down to a lift. The lift then takes you down further to the bar. Getting in the long line to get to the restaurant lets you know just how popular this place is. Although we heard from the locals that Rock Bar was a “touristy” place, that was okay with us…after all, we WERE tourists.

Here’s the view from the lift:

IMG_0327

IMG_0325

I think my jaw may have hit the floor when I saw the view from the lift. This place was SO beautiful! We didn’t know where to start…Do we sit? Do we walk around? Do we get a drink, then sit?! We finally settled on grabbing a seat nearest to the edge of the rocks for maximum sunset watching action! And then the photo shoot began…just as the sun started to set.

IMG_0338

IMG_0342

IMG_0347

It’s almost as if we could hear the moment the sun kissed the ocean, leading up to what was without a doubt the most beautiful sunset I have ever seen:

If you ever find yourself in Bali and you’re looking for something to do, then Rock Bar is definitely worth checking out…never mind what the locals say about it being a touristy place, trust me, you DON’T want to miss out on this place! Until next time!

Travel Tips: The Elephant Expedition in Bali

Posted on May 22, 2013 by Johnnalynn Lynch in Fashion Tips, Home, Lifestyle, Travel, Trends No Comments

IMG_0172

Hey Afaconados!

After an amazing first night out and a whole day on the beach, my friends and I decided to take a trip out to the Gianyar Regency for a visit to the Bali Zoo, where they have their famous Elephant Expedition. This is by far one of the coolest things I got to do while in Bali. Never in my life would I have expected to have the opportunity to do something so cool. I’m amazed that I wasn’t at all afraid to get on such a huge animal. I was surprised to find that Haathi (my elephant’s name) was so gentle and tame.

The Bali Zoo is huge! The trail we took is used only for the elephant expedition so you don’t get to see any other animals along the way. It lasts about one hour and you take a break to visit a gorgeous 300 year old temple along the way…not a bad bonus if I do say so myself. The purpose of the break is so the elephants can rest for a while and eat before continuing on the trail.

Take a look:

During our break, the girls and I got suited up in sarongs and sashes (required for entering a temple) and headed up the hill to visit the temple:

After visiting the temple, my friends and I got to refresh ourselves with some delicious coconut water straight from the coconut!

IMG_0263

By the time we finished drinking, our elephant friends had returned to complete the remainder of the tour. But first, we got a chance to feed our elephants chopped coconut and pose for pics…SO COOL!

IMG_0269

Then we were on our way back to where we started. My driver Joona was so sweet and helpful, I wanted to make sure I got a chance to take a picture with him when we got back.

This was truly an experience I will never forget! Until next time!

Fashion Tips: Dressing Comfortably for a Long Flight

Posted on May 21, 2013 by Johnnalynn Lynch in Fashion Tips, Home, Lifestyle, Look of the Day, Shopping, Travel, Trends No Comments

Hey Afaconados!

While my very first objective for my trip to Bali was to pack light, squeezing everything I needed into one 21′ inch carry on, I was equally concerned with dressing comfortably for the long flights (Yes I said flights…plural). Since there are no direct flights to Indonesia, if you ever plan to go there, please be aware of what you’re in for…multiple flights and travel that lasts at least 1-2 days. Lucky for me, I was traveling with two girls that have been my best friends for some years now and we have traveled all over together…I can’t stress how important it is to travel with people you get along well with.

I was quite surprised to find out that what I thought was limited space in my carry on, turned out to not be. With this vacation taking place in May, a season of warmth in most places, the clothing I packed was very light and didn’t take up much space.

This is all I took with me for the entire trip:

Screen shot 2013-05-18 at 1.32.41 PMWith packing out of the way…What to wear for such long travel? Taking into consideration the fact that I’d be in a confined space for a long period of time and sleeping on and off for hours on end, I wanted to make sure I wore something I wouldn’t regret having worn later.

Here is what I selected:

IMG_3747

I wore a loose fitting, long tunic because it was comfortable, soft and light, complete with soft leggings. I chose to wear a long scarf because it could be used as a wrap in case it got chilly. I wore my TOMS because they are simply the most comfortable, easy to wear shoes on the planet! My hat was added for a little fashion flair…AND because it’s my lucky hat which I never fly without :-)

The key to being comfortable for a long flight is simple…it’s all about comfort. Given the hours of travel and sitting that you’re most likely in for, it’s important to make sure you elect to wear something light and breathable. My friends and I got really lucky and ended up in first class which was an amazing experience.

It’s not even fair to be this comfortable on a flight:

Absolute comfort! Until next time!

IMG_0052

Hey Afaconados!

I’m Back! Please forgive me for taking an extra week off, but after literally being on the other side of the world, I needed some time to get back on track with sleep, work and most of all adjusting to “I’m not in paradise anymore” life. It hasn’t been easy, to say the very least :-( Anyway, I’m so excited to share some of the highlights of my trip with you all. Over the next couple of days, be on the lookout for pictures from my fabulous trip to Bali, Indonesia!

Destination Bali: 8 Travel Essentials

Posted on April 28, 2013 by Johnnalynn Lynch in Fashion Tips, Home, Look of the Day, Shopping, Travel, Trends No Comments

Hey Afaconados!

It’s almost time for me to get on that plane for ALL those hours…and believe me it’s a lot. For today’s Look of the Day, I thought I’d give you all an idea of what I plan to wear and take with me on the plane.

Because I’ll be traveling for such a long time, it’s really important for me to dress as comfortably as possible, and nothing says comfort like a soft tunic with leggings and the most comfortable shoes ever…TOMS. To add a little “chic” to my outfit, I added a nice scarf and fedora. Oh! And let me not neglect to mention the best travel book ever written, Eat Pray Love. :-)
