Feature Friday: Romwe

Posted on August 31, 2012 by Johnnalynn Lynch in Fashion Tips, Feature Friday, Home, Shopping, Trends No Comments

Hey Afaconados!

I’m in full fashion mode as I continue to get ready for the Independent Fashion Bloggers Conference in NYC on Tuesday and Wednesday of next week! I can’t wait for the chance to meet some of my fellow fashion bloggers! But as for today, it’s still business as usual….and you know what today is…Feature Friday! My feature for today is an online boutique named Romwe.

If you’re a fan of websites like Urban Outfitters, Need Supply and NastyGal then you’re going to LOVE Romwe. This store is the epitome of “Street Style Fashion”. For those of you that don’t know, “Street Style Fashion” involves looks that do NOT come straight from the runway (i.e. Lookbook.NU or Chictopia), hence the name Street Style. I love how unconventional street style looks are, so I was really excited to find out about Romwe so I can add it to my list of favorite websites.

Check out what they have to offer:

Pure Cotton BF Style Long Sleeve Blouse: $68

Anomalous Color Block Blue Coat: $51

Classic Black and White Jumpsuit: $130

Spliced Irregular Bland and White Dress: $68

Green-Grey Stripe Longline Cardigan: $62

Contrast Bowknot Pleated Khaki Dress: $46

Awesome Street Style Fashion! If you’d like to visit Romwe, their address is http://www.romwe.com

Until next time!

LOTD: Muted Prints That Still Pop

Posted on August 29, 2012 by Johnnalynn Lynch in Fashion Tips, Home, Look of the Day, Shopping, Trends No Comments

Hey Afaconados!

My mixed prints “Look of the Day” makes a statement with the prints, but certainly not with the colors. I chose to do muted colors today because I wanted to show you an example of how you can still pop an outfit that isn’t bold in color. This is a look that will let the prints and accessories do the talking!

For this set, I paired a black and white polka dot top with gray floral jeans. I topped it off with a darker gray tote and wedge booties. Everything is muted, but the outfit still pops!

Here’s my set:

LOTD: Muted Prints

If you’re worried about the “soon to change” weather temperatures, this look can easily transition into a Fall look by simply adding a cardigan. I’d love to see pictures if you decide to try a muted mixed print look of your own!

5 Fashion Items That Should Never Make A Comeback

Posted on August 28, 2012 by Johnnalynn Lynch in Fashion Tips, Home, Shopping, Trends 2 Comments

Hey Afaconados!

I was at lunch with my coworker yesterday and we were talking about all the crazy outfits and hairstyles we used to wear. He said he used to have a “High Left/Low Right”. LOL! For those of you who know what that is…I know you’re laughing. For those of you who don’t, Google it. :-) Those were the days! It really is true what they say about fashion being one big circle…”What goes around, comes around”.

But what about the styles that should NEVER make it back around? And believe me, there are some out there. For today’s article, I came up with 5 items of clothing that should never again see the light of day.

Here they are in no specific order:

1. Biker Shorts – These were worn by both males and females and were particularly popular among the “physically fit” crowd. They were awful! I’m a fan of body conscious clothing but these things were over the top!

2. Fanny Packs – Fanny packs were (and unfortunately still are) mostly worn by tourists, the elderly and people going to places where they would be doing a lot of walking. Guys, please don’t ever wear one of these things. I’ve seen recent pictures of Rihanna wearing a Gucci fanny pack and although I LOVE her style, this is a NO NO. I don’t care what the label is…PLEASE don’t wear these.

3. MC Hammer Pants – OMG! I don’t even think this one needs an explanation. For the time they were popular, I get it. MC Hammer was an amazing and energetic dancer who obviously needed LOTS of room to move around because the pants he wore went WAY beyond normal. I’ve seen recent runway styles that include these pants and I literally had to shake my head. Bury these pants if you own a pair, I implore you.

4. Head Sweatbands – I used to be a huge fan of Olivia Newton John’s song “Let’s Get Physical” and equally as big a fan of the video. That song really made me want to work out and it was quite popular in gyms around the country during that time. But why would you want to walk around all day looking like you just came from a workout? Please don’t wear these out in public.

And last but not least….

5. Parachute Pants – Whenever you’re walking down the street and the pants you’re wearing make a louder sound that the sound of your shoes against the pavement, you should think twice about wearing those pants ever again. LOL! I have to say, these weren’t even a fad with me…I just never caught onto the craze.

It’s great to think back and re-live the good ole days when it comes to these styles and how we wore them then. But not everything should come back…I’m just sayin.

Until next time!

Fashion News: Designer Comic Books and Fashion’s Night Out – How Cool?!!

Posted on August 27, 2012 by Johnnalynn Lynch in Designer Spotlight, Fashion News, Fashion Tips, Home No Comments

Hey Afaconados!

For those of you who don’t know, every year for just one night, the entire fashion industry comes together for an event called Fashion’s Night Out. It’s a pretty amazing and exciting event and the turnout is always stupendous. Stores stay open late, celebrity guests and designers make pop-up appearances for no reason and you can shop till you DROP! The event takes place this year on September 6th and is held for multiple purposes which include:

1 – To kick off New York Fashion Week

2 – To unite the world through fashion

…and most importantly

3 – To benefit various charities through its proceeds.

What I read in the news yesterday was that as part of Fashion’s Night Out, designer Phillip Lim has created a comic book called “Kill the Night” as a means to promote his Fall/Winter Collection. The comic book was illustrated by Jan Duursema (Star Wars) and co-written by the same guy that writes Batman and X-Men, John Ostrander. In the story, set in a Sin City-ish atmosphere, models face all the violence and dangers of the world while wearing killer outfits. I think that has to be one of the most creative ideas ever and I can’t wait to get a copy. You can request your copy through his website by clicking here. Only lucky clients purchasing at Phillip Lim stores on Fashion’s Night Out will receive a complimentary copy that night.

I’ll be in NYC on Fashion’s Night Out so I’m hoping to worm my way into someone’s party…or two! I’ll dish about all of that stuff when I’m back in town.

Until next time!

LOTD: Getting Ready for Fall!

Posted on August 26, 2012 by Johnnalynn Lynch in Fashion Tips, Home, Look of the Day, Shopping, Trends No Comments

Hey Afaconados!

It was 90 degrees in Hotlanta today and when it’s that hot outside I do two things…#1 – I don’t go outside and #2 – I dream of Fall. Don’t get me wrong, I love Summer for a lot of reasons, but Fall is by far more fashion friendly. Not only do you get to break out the boots, but you can get more creative with layering as well. The possibilities are endless!

I’m super excited about Fashion Week because I’ll be reporting on all the latest fashion trends for Fall! In the meantime, the set I did for today’s look includes: A white collared top, red skinnies, leopard print skinny belt and orange cardigan. To complete the look, I included a red top handle purse and camel colored wedge boots. Red and Orange are the epitome of what Fall colors are all about so I just HAD to incorporate those.

Here’s my set:

LOTD: Ready for Fall!

Fall here I come! I’ll be heading to NYC this coming weekend and I cannot wait to report on all the cool people I’m going to meet as well as the shopping extravaganzas I’ll be embarking on! Please stay tuned!

LOTD: Saturday Inspiration – The New Chic!

Posted on August 25, 2012 by Johnnalynn Lynch in Fashion Tips, Home, Look of the Day, Shopping, Trends 2 Comments

Hey Afaconados!

It’s the weekend and you know what that means…time to start deciding what to wear out on the town tonight! I find conventional club looks to be boring. Anyone can throw on a tight dress with stilettos…it just doesn’t require any thought whatsoever. Why not step up your “Chic” and try something new?

The set I put together today is super sophisticated and certainly not what you can typically expect to find in a night club setting. I like to call it “The New Chic” because although you may see this type of outfit often, it’s not a normal look for the club scene.

The combo includes red skinnies, tuxedo jacket, a pair of leopard print pumps and a wide bib necklace. I actually own all of these pieces and will be taking a very similar outfit with me on my trip to NYC next weekend, so don’t ever think the sets I create are things I don’t (or won’t) wear. I didn’t put a top underneath because that can be anything you want….collared shirt, tank, bandeau top…you name it! And the great thing about jackets is…they can come off! If you’re afraid you won’t be sexy enough…try a bandeau top, crop top or tank top so you can show off some skin.

Check it out:

Feature Friday: Lavish Alice

Posted on August 24, 2012 by Johnnalynn Lynch in Fashion Tips, Feature Friday, Home, Shopping, Trends No Comments

Hey Afaconados!

It’s Feature Friday, and my feature for today is called Lavish Alice. My most sincere apologies for not doing a feature last Friday. It’s time for me to make up for it, however, and I’m doing so by presenting an online boutique that is so affordable, it will make you wonder how they can possibly continue to operate when they offer such low prices. And they have some REALLY cute stuff!

So who is Alice anyway? Well, according to their website (and I quote), “Alice is Fierce. Alice is Strong. Alice is Unique”. After being on the site and seeing what Lavish Alice has to offer, I would say those 3 sentences just about sum it up. The clothing on this site is definitely NOT for the faint of heart…It’s for the girl who is unafraid and wants to take risks.

Check out what they have to offer:

Coral Peplum Dress: $30.28 available at www.lavishalice.com

Cream & Pink Polka Dot Pleated Chiffon Dress: $28.96 available at www.lavishalice.com

Blue Denim Oversized Gold Collar Tip Shirt: $30.28 available at www.lavishalice.com

LOTD: Boho Chic

Posted on August 23, 2012 by Johnnalynn Lynch in Fashion Tips, Home, Shopping, Trends No Comments

Hey Afaconados!

Tomorrow is Friday which is by far my favorite day of the week because it kicks off the weekend…and this weekend for me is going to be a blast! I’m getting ready for my trip to The Big Apple and I could not be more excited! The outfit I put together for today’s set is one that I plan on wearing while in NYC. I’m a Bohemian at heart so I love long maxi skirts that flow easily and give that laid back look. Plus, with the wonderful weather we’ve had lately, this look would be an excellent fit!

If you’re interested in getting this look, just direct your attention to the bottom of this post to find out where you can purchase each item.

Here’s my set:

Why Does This Little Girl Look Like A Woman?

Posted on August 22, 2012 by Johnnalynn Lynch in Fashion News, Home 1 Comment

She’s 10 years old…that’s it.  First, to be VERY clear, today’s article is by no means intended to be a Model Love article. I came across an article recently that talked about the fine line being walked when girls this age are being presented in a sexual way.  I could NOT believe my eyes when I saw this young model…whose name is Thylane Blondeau. I’m in shock at this and would love to spark some conversation around this topic. Why on Earth would a 10 year old girl EVER need to be made to look like a 21 year old woman? Am I missing something here?

Is she beautiful? Yes, of course she is, but is this really the type of “light” we want to shine on girls her age? What type of message are we sending when we do things like this? And what kind of examples are we setting for girls her age? There are so many questions to ask surrounding this topic it’s crazy. We start playing a very dangerous game with the safety of our children when we do things like this. Seriously, when did it become wrong for a 10 year old to actually LOOK like a 10 year old?

I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves:

Thoughts?

Until next time!

My Top 5 Fashion Game Apps

Posted on August 21, 2012 by Johnnalynn Lynch in Fashion Tips, Home, Shopping No Comments

Hey Afaconados!

I absolutely LOVE the world of Fashion! Because of that, not only do I spend countless hours on the internet when I’m at home, but I also have multiple apps on my iPhone and iPad that are dedicated to things related to the Fashion Industry (i.e. The latest runway reports, Celebrity and Personal Style Photos, etc). If you remember, in a previous article, I shared a few of those apps with you. Well today, I’m going to let you in on some of my favorite fashion game apps.

I’m not sure about you all, but I’m a big kid at heart so I play quite a few games on my iPhone. I find that the fashion game apps and of course Words with Friends are the ones I use the most and can’t live without! You’d be surprised how quickly your creative juices kick in when you’re playing these games. My hightlights for today are all free and some them even offer an ad-free and more robust version, but you have to pay for the download. All games are offered on both the iPhone and Android.

Here they are in no certain order:

 1. Fashion Story – This has to be one of the most addictive games in the WORLD! In the game, you’re the owner of your own fashion boutique and it’s up to you to order inventory to stock your store as well as decorate the boutique to attract buyers. The game also uses social media so you can connect with your “neighbors” by messaging them or visiting their boutiques to leave them a friendly gift.

2. JoJo’s Fashion Show 2 – I LOVE this game! In JoJo’s Fashion Show 2, you can create great outfits for male and female models and take your creations to runways from Los Angeles to Paris!

3. Fashion Icon – This game also allows you to dress your model but it also provides a social touch, allowing you to connect with friends.

4. Style Studio: Fashion Designer – In this game you can create, customize and share your creations with other users. There’s even the option to upload pictures from your phone to enhance your creations.

5. Stardoll Fashion Spin – I fell in love with the internet version of this game. It’s like playing with virtual paper dolls! And I know you all remember how much fun that was! Create your “Medoll” to look just like you and have a blast dressing her!

There you have it…my favorite fashion game apps. Hope you’ll check them out!

Until next time!
