Hey Afaconados!

I have a late night Style Snatch for you today! I really appreciate Rachel Bilson’s “Easy Chic” style. Her cute, elfin-like qualities and tiny frame just make her look super cute in everything she wears.

The Style Snatch I did today is so unbelievably effortless, simple and sophisticated it can be worn in the office, out for cocktails after work, or even on a date! I absolutely LOVE versatile outfits like this one!

Here’s Rachel Bilson’s photo paired with my Style Snatch:

Shopping Trends: Virtual Fashion

Posted on July 29, 2012 by Johnnalynn Lynch in Fashion Tips, Home, Shopping, Trends No Comments

Hey Afacondados!

In today’s world, it’s all about technology. The online consumer experience has come light years from what it formerly was, offering new and exciting features meant to enhance online visits. Retailers everywhere are upping the ante, setting aside budgets specifically aimed at improving their online presence and are constantly brainstorming to come up with new ways to “Wow” their customers. Doesn’t it feel good to know that teams of marketing people at retailers around the world are in meetings every day trying to figure out how to make you…the customer, happy?

Well online shopping is going to get better and better! I recently found out about a UK online clothing website called Banana Flame that offers what is called “Augmented Reality Technology” (Please Note: The Banana Flame site is currently under construction). The technology, made by a software company called Zugara, allows customers to use the camera on their desktop or laptop to virtually try on the clothing before they make a purchase. How fantastic is this idea?!

Check out how it works:

It’s comforting to know that Retailers are showing more concern for the customer experience, allowing us to try before we buy. I can’t wait for this to start catching on everywhere!

Until next time!

Style Snatchin: Melissa George

Posted on July 28, 2012 by Johnnalynn Lynch in Fashion Tips, Home, Shopping, Style Snatchin, Trends No Comments

Hey Afaconados!

I hope you’re all enjoying your Saturday afternoon, even know it’s hotter than an oven outside. :-) I did a Style Snatch on Melissa George today for all of you ladies out there who may want to get a little adventurous. This look combines the very popular animal print trend with another trend that’s very “IN” this season…the bare midriff.

What I like most about this look is that even though Melissa does bare her midriff, she’s only giving you a little sneak peek. It’s definitely a sexy look, but it’s still very classy.

From now on, I’ll be incorporating the picture I’m snatching into my set so you can compare the two looks.

Here’s both Melissa George’s look and my Style Snatch (*NOTE: Melissa George’s picture is provided courtesy of InStyle.com):

Style Snatchin: Melissa George

If I weren’t so incredibly bloated today, this would be a look I’d select for tonight’s outing with the girls. :-) It’s sexy, cool, classy and chic all at the same time! :-)

Until next time!

Hair Trends: Taste the Rainbow

Posted on July 28, 2012 by Johnnalynn Lynch in FaçonFlip by Ashleigh No Comments

What’s Up Future Flippers!

It is a new day and age, and that means that all types of crazy styles are coming in, one of them being colorful hair. Now I don’t know how many of you guys actually read my Ombre Hair article, but basically I stated that the great thing about having an ombre hair color is that you can keep color tones that suit your skin, closer to your face, and you can fade them to crazier colors that may not look good directly on top of your skin, but as always, there are some DAREDEVILS  amongst us who are going all out on the crazy hair colors and I have to say that…..I LOVE IT!

Forget about the typical crazy colors like red, blue, and pink. People are taking it to completely different levels. I’ve almost seen it all. I have seen orange, purple, green, silver, and I can’t lie….even pastels. It’s like the rainbow has attacked fashion. We are not just color blocking our clothes but we are color blocking the world.

Check it out:

Personally, I feel like the crazy colors are almost liberating in a sense. It is true self-expression, especially when you wear it right. It’s about making a statement and it’s about being fearless, which I feel is a big part of fashion itself. I think that if you are brave enough to take it to that level then you should. With all of the DIY hair color kits, and dip dying, there is nothing holding you back but yourself. Our generation is a bold one and there is nothing more exciting than being a part of the awesomeness. LOL!

Have FUN you guys, and be Creative!

Ciao!

Feature Friday: Furor

Posted on July 27, 2012 by Johnnalynn Lynch in Feature Friday, Home, Shopping, Trends No Comments

Hey Afaconados!

I’m so glad it’s Friday…my absolute favorite day of the week! I’m happy to inform you all that I’m currently on the hunt for a fabulous piece for my next GIVEAWAY!! The first one went really well and I’m so excited to be doing it again. Please stay tuned because details will be coming within the next week.

By definition, the word “Furor” means “Mania” and “A fashionable craze”. Given the ever changing world of fashion and the intensity with which we “Afaconados” chase new and interesting styles, I thought it would be suitable to feature the online boutique Furor for Feature Friday today. Furor combines both new and vintage clothing in the “Indie Clothing” realm. Being the lover of vintage clothing that I am, I was happy to stumble upon this website. Speaking honestly, they don’t have tons of selections to choose from, but the pieces they do have are abstract and stylish.

Here are a few I’ve selected:

Tribal Vintage Blouse: $26 at www.furormoda.com

Fan Link Earrings: $10 at www.furormoda.com

Tribal Vintage Blazer: $40 at www.furormoda.com

Vintage 60s Gem: $65 at www.furormoda.com

Tribal Love Shorts: $28 at www.furormoda.com

Vintage Orange Maxi Skirt: $45 at www.furormoda.com

Orange Snake Print Cuff: $13 at www.furormoda.com

Vintage Sheer Pastel Blouse: $38 at www.furormoda.com

I think all of the pieces I selected, with the exception of the jewelry, are vintage pieces which of course means that there’s only one available. This boutique is definitely worth checking out!

If you’d like to visit Furor, their website address is http://www.furormoda.com.

Until next time!

Jessica Alba is popular for wearing very cool and casual clothing…Effortless Chic is what I like to call it! In the photo, she’s wearing a navy blue blazer, paired with a simple white tank, striped skirt and blue wedge shoes.

Here she is (Please note that the photo is courtesy of InStyle.com):

Model Love: Liya Kebede

Posted on July 26, 2012 by Johnnalynn Lynch in Home, Model Love, Style Icons No Comments

Hey Afaconados!

Every now and then a model comes along that is so unbelievably striking, you almost have to do a double-take to make sure you haven’t seen a Mermaid or some other mythical creature. And every now and then a model comes along who is equally as beautiful inside, as she is outside. It does happen folks. I’m talking about none other than Ethiopian supermodel, actress, designer, AND philanthropist Liya Kebede.

Born and raised in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Liya Kebede was discovered by a film director who then introduced her to a French modeling agent. After making the move to Paris and working there for a while, she then moved to NYC where she got her big break, signing an exclusive contract with Tom Ford for his Gucci Fall/Winter 2000 fashion show. She has appeared in ads ALL over the world…Victoria’s Secret, Gap, Yves Saint-Laurent and Revlon to name just a few. In 2007, Forbes reported that she was the eleventh-highest-paid top model in the world and she currently ranks #13 on Models.com’s Icon List…..YES she’s an ICON ya’ll!

Of all the things I just mentioned above…Beauty, Money, Model Icon Status…all of those things pale in comparison to the philanthropic work Liya is involved in. She was appointed WHO Goodwill Ambassador for Maternal, Newborn and Child Health in 2005 and founded the Liya Kebede Foundation to continue efforts in that regard. She has worked with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation as part of their Living Proof Project and she even used her acting chops to help raise awareness on a very sensitive topic, female circumcision. Liya had a starring role in the film adaptation of Desert Flower, a book written about the life of former supermodel Waris Dirie, who underwent female circumcision in Ethiopia. This girl is bad!

Check her out:

Positively gorgeous! Until next time!

Hair Tips: Sock It To ‘Em!

Posted on July 25, 2012 by Johnnalynn Lynch in FaçonFlip by Ashleigh No Comments

What’s Up Future Flippers!

If you’re like me, you know….on the natural hair journey and what not, then you are working hard every day to keep your hair in the best condition…which if you’re like me, means that it’s not often that your hair comes in contact with heat. Not saying that this doesn’t work for people who have naturally straight hair, or permed hair, but I figure you guys are more open to using heat on your hair than someone who is natural.

With that said, I decided that I wanted to curl my hair without any heat what-so-ever. Now you may be saying to yourself, “That’s impossible, your hair will have to come in contact with heat at some point,” but I have news for you non-believers….YOU’RE WRONG!

Sock Curls are the way to do it. What is a sock curl you might ask? Well, a sock curl is simply a curl that was created with the help of, well…a sock! It’s quite simple. All you have to do is apply some moose or styling spray to your clean, DAMP, not wet, not 30% dry, but DAMP hair. Afterward, you simply split your hair into sections, almost as if you were going to set it on rollers, comb it out, and wrap it around the sock like you would with a roller. To hold it, you simply tie the sock in a knot.

Now I shall not tell a lie, you will for sure get better results if your hair is already straight, because then it will look like REAL professional curls, but me being the lazy bum that I am, I refused to straighten and or blow-dry my hair. So I simply washed my hair, let it dry, applied a mixture of leave-in-conditioner and water (in a spray bottle) to each individual section of my hair, wrapped it in the socks, let it dry fully overnight, and my curls were AWESOME!

In conclusion I would like to note that there are great HOW-TO videos on YouTube if this wasn’t detailed enough for you. I recommend giving it a shot. The results are great, and it saves you one less trip through the frying pan!

I LUV YOU GUYS!

Style Snatchin: Street Snaps

Posted on July 24, 2012 by Johnnalynn Lynch in Fashion Tips, Home, Shopping, Style Snatchin, Trends No Comments

Hey Afaconados!

I found a Style Snatch for today that is so cool I had to design it using a backdrop from one of the coolest places on Earth….Paris!

This look can be worn in the office, for a casual drink with friends, walking the city….just about anywhere! I absolutely love this look and it’s so simple to achieve. The combination is simple…it includes a striped oxford shirt, tapered navy blue trousers and oxford shoes. To complete this chic style, a beret was added to top it off! The woman in the picture has the most beautiful shade of red hair and it really makes the outfit pop…a bonus if you’re a Ginger!

Here’s the Street Snap:

And here’s my Style Snatch:

Designer Clothing, Celebrity Names

Posted on July 24, 2012 by Johnnalynn Lynch in Fashion Tips, Home, Shopping, Trends No Comments

Hey Afaconados!

In last week’s fashion news I read that the “Ever Chic” and beautiful songstress Rihanna will be launching her own clothing line in Spring 2013. Rihanna’s clothing line will be the result of a collaboration with the UK based, family run store River Island. River Island is well known for their edgy styles so this combo should produce some fabulous clothing!

Rihanna

It seems to be a growing trend for singers and actors to expand their brand by creating either a clothing, perfume or makeup line. But is any of it any good? There are definitely some success stories like Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen, Victoria Beckham and now Kanye West. But how much is too much? At times, at least to me, it feels like celebrity overkill. We already see and hear them on TV and the radio….do we need to wear them too?

Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen

Victoria Beckham

Although I do like the idea of a celebrity expanding their brand, I’m also a little conflicted by the fact that these people are NOT designers and are therefore, not actually creating these designs their names are so beautifully embroidered on. The intricacy, skill and creativity that go into creating a garment is not, in my opinion, something that a person simply putting their name on it can ever appreciate. I enjoy fashion immensely so if a collection is good, then it’s good. But it seems a little unfair that someone else gets the credit for what wasn’t created by them.

I would love to know what you guys think, please leave your comments.

Until next time!
