Essential Accessory: The Scarf

Posted on May 31, 2012 by Johnnalynn Lynch in Fashion Tips, Home, Shopping, Trends 8 Comments

Hey Afaconados!

During my time in London, I developed a love and use for an accessory that I had only used (up to that time) for cold weather purposes. I’m talking about scarves. Nowadays, both women and men alike are wearing scarves year round…even during the summer! What I love about scarves is that there are so many different ways you can tie them and they work well with just about any outfit, including dresses. For a great summer look, you can elect to wear scarf made from a lighter fabric rather than the thicker options available for winter. My favorite way to wear a scarf is like the outfit below, with a pair of boyfriend jeans and a tank. I own so many of them now that I have a hard time selecting which one to wear now. Check it out:

New Trend: The Mullet Dress

Posted on May 31, 2012 by Johnnalynn Lynch in Fashion Tips, Home, Shopping, Trends 2 Comments

Hey Afaconados!

When it comes to trendsetting, we tend to look to the Stars as an example for what to wear. So it comes as no surprise that the latest trend emerging these days, is a trend we see being sported by some of the hottest celebs in the business. The Mullet Dress, also known as the “High/Low Dress”, has quickly become a favorite in Hollywood. Despite its name, which comes from a reference to an 80s hairstyle that is “less than stylish” to say the least, the Mullet Dress is actually quite a fashionable garment when worn with some flair. Check out some of the celebs who are rocking the Mullet Look:

If you’re interested in trying this look and you’re looking for some affordable options, check these out:

Reverse Lattice Waist High/Low Dress : Urban Outfitters - $69

Merrily Rolling Along High/Low Beige Dress: Lulu's - $62

Oslo Dress: Need Supply - $58

What I like about these dresses is that they give you the option of showing off some of your sexy, while allowing you to leave a little to the imagination. There are also Mullet Skirts as well, so don’t think you have to commit to the dress. I’m currently on the hunt for one of my own! Until next time!

Look of the Day: Summer Ivory

Posted on May 29, 2012 by Johnnalynn Lynch in Fashion Tips, Home, Shopping 3 Comments

Hey Afaconados!

I’ve always been fond of the color ivory but it’s not a color I get to wear often. The look of the day for today is a simple, yet chic look with an embellished ivory colored dress that can easily be worn to a fancy cocktail party or out for drinks at an upscale bar in the city.

Memorial Day Weekend Look: Summer Jazz Festival

Posted on May 28, 2012 by Johnnalynn Lynch in Fashion Tips, Home, Shopping, Trends 3 Comments

Hey Afaconados!

Memorial Day Weekend is officially at an end (way too quickly if you ask me) and I will be going to a Jazz Festival this afternoon which got me thinking about what kind of attire to wear. This is my first time going to an event like this so I really wasn’t sure how to dress for the occasion. Needless to say, I had fun creating a look that I would certainly rock if I had all of the pieces. Check it out:

Memorial Day Weekend Look: Summer Safari

Posted on May 27, 2012 by Johnnalynn Lynch in Fashion Tips, Home, Shopping, Trends 4 Comments

Hey Afaconados!

When it comes to patterns, remember that everything doesn’t always have to match. Don’t be afraid to play around with different patterns and textures. As long as you’re strategic with how you choose which patterns to mix and match and remember which colors play well together, you can create some pretty cool looks. The option I created below is another cool BBQ Chic look. Check it out:

Feature Friday: Eclectic Style at Need Supply

Posted on May 26, 2012 by Johnnalynn Lynch in Fashion Tips, Home, Shopping 9 Comments

Hey Afaconados!

I can’t believe I almost forgot that today is Feature Friday. The online store I’d like to highlight this week, which is a personal favorite of mine, is Need Supply. If you’re as big an Urban Outfitters fan as I am, then you’re going to LOVE this store! I find it hard to believe that a lot of people I know haven’t heard of it but it’s certainly one worth checking out.

If your tastes lie on the more eclectic side with a vintage twist, then Need Supply is the online store for you. What I really love about this store is that they focus more on contemporary and independent labels that aren’t as easily found in big name retail stores like Macy’s or Dillard’s. It’s hard to stand out when the brands you wear are so easily found which makes Need Supply so special. With designer names like Jeffrey Campbell, Matiko, BB Dakota and Funktional, you’re bound to find something on this site that will not compare to anything you’d find in a normal retail store. If you’d like to check them out, they’re located at http://www.needsupply.com. Here is some of what they have to offer:

Frances Dress - Courtesy of www.needsupply.com - $58

Sunset Valley Dress - Courtesy of www.needsupply.com - $68

Bali Platform Sandals - Courtesy of www.needsupply.com - $180

Chevalier Necklace - Courtesy of www.needsupply.com - $28

Need I neglect to mention that it’s Memorial Day Weekend, which means shopping and sales? Get your shop on!

Love Her Style: Tilda Swinton

Posted on May 25, 2012 by Johnnalynn Lynch in Fashion Tips, Home, Style Icons 2 Comments

Hey Afaconados!

I hope you’re all gearing up for the Memorial Day weekend shenanigans! Before I get ready to pop off the weekend I just had to throw in the quick article about my girl Tilda Swinton. I’m not even sure what made me think of her today but I’m glad I did because it made me remember just how much I love her style. I’m a big fan of anything abstract and that is a word I would definitely use to describe her. She’s popular for her androgynous looks and has been described using everything from bizarre to even crazy. All the more reason to like her right?

What I love about Tilda is that she’s not afraid to go against the grain. She wears her hair in ways that most people wouldn’t dare try and she can go from ice blonde to fiery red in 0 to 60 seconds. She’s known to wear very structural, futuristic pieces and because of her looks she can pull them off without looking like she’s trying too hard. Only a chosen few have that ability. Check out some of her many looks:

Love her style! Until next time!

Work Appropriate Clothing for Hot Summer Days

Posted on May 24, 2012 by Johnnalynn Lynch in Fashion Tips, Home 6 Comments

Hey Afaconados!

It’s not even summer in Atlanta yet and the heat is sweltering. We’re already up to 88 degrees and, since we’re not called “Hotlanta” for nothing, the temperatures will only continue to elevate. When it comes to hot weather, it’s pretty simple to decide what to wear right? Any sort of light fabric or clothing that exposes the skin so you can get some relief from the heat.

But what about those of us with day jobs that require more business or business casual attire? Below, you will find some options that will not only provide the relief you need from the heat, but that won’t get you sent home for being inappropriately dressed OR hurt your status as a Fashionista! That’s a lot right? Check it out:

Sheath Dress

Tank with Chiffon Skirt

Tank with Fitted Skirt

Jersey Dress

Fitted Tank with Cropped Pants

There you have it! Professional options that won’t cause you to melt in the summer heat!

Until next time!

The Infinity Dress

Posted on May 22, 2012 by Johnnalynn Lynch in Fashion Tips, Home 6 Comments

Hey Afaconados!

My friends and I have this rule that if we wear a dress to an event and we are photographed in it, we can’t wear that dress to another major event again. Crazy huh?

Enter the Infinity dress. The Infinity dress has got to be the craftiest dress ever constructed because it can be worn in multiple ways. Get one of these bad boys and you’ve got about 12 different dresses. Check it out:

The Tart Infinity Dress

If you decide to purchase an Infinity dress and need help being walked through how to style it, here’s a very helpful YouTube video as well:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xSUl-s9Ljmk

Tart Infinity dresses retail for about $284, but if you are a member of any private sales like Gilt Groupe or Ideeli, you can purchase one for around $79 which is a wise investment, in my opinion, for a dress you can wear in so many different ways. As a matter of fact, Ideeli is having a sale on them now. Better grab one while you can!
